The XMC-231 FPDP and FPGA PMC/XMC is designed to interface to external units via a single FPDP (VITA-17) interface. The Virtex-5 FPGA on the XMC-230 provides a powerful engine for data processing applications and with the option of an SX95T or LX155T developers can optimize the processing resources to the needs of their application.

This processing capability is combined with the widely used FPDP interface, providing a familiar and reliable mechanism for communicating with other hardware platforms and allowing users to integrate FPGA processing into existing and new systems.
Since the XMC-231 is offered as a hybrid PMC/XMC, it can be used with the many compute cards that have PMC sites on-board, as well as newer cards which offer XMC sites.
